Abilene High School, located at 2800 N 6th Street, was established in 1888 and is the oldest high school in Abilene. It currently holds a 6A status and hosts over 2,300 students as of 2010. The Abilene High Marching Band is widely accepted as the oldest marching band in all the state. Abilene High is part of the Abilene Independent School District. Their mascot is the Golden Eagle. The school boasts several wonderful sports teams with several of its football players going on to become pro football players. When it comes to academics, 37 percent of students participate in advanced placement classes.
